π¦· What to Do About Sensitive Teeth
Tooth sensitivity happens when enamel wears down or gums recede, exposing the dentine. Hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods can trigger a sharp, brief pain.
β Tips to Reduce Sensitivity:
- Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth (desensitizing formulas help block pain signals)
- Brush gently with a sonic toothbrush or one that has a pressure sensor
- Brush the tops of the teeth first this reduces the abrasiveness of the toothpaste against the hardest wearing part of the tooth.
- Avoid acidic foods and drinks like soda, citrus, or vinegar
- Donβt brush immediately after acidic foods β wait 30β60 minutes
- Fluoride treatments can strengthen enamel (ask your dentist)
- Check for gum recession or cavities β sensitivity can signal underlying problems
β οΈ See a Dentist If:
- Pain is severe or persistent
- Sensitivity affects daily life
- You notice visible enamel loss, chips, or gum problems
