What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial replacement for the root of a missing tooth. It is used to support a crown, bridge, or denture so that it looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.

Here’s how it works:
1. Titanium or Ceramic Post (the implant itself)
A small screw-like post – usually made of titanium – is placed into the jawbone. This acts as the new tooth root.

2. Healing & Integration
Over a few months, the bone naturally grows around the implant in a process called osseointegration, securing it firmly in place.

3. Abutment
A small connector is attached to the top of the implant. This holds the final tooth restoration.

4. Crown / Replacement Tooth
A custom-made crown (or bridge/denture) is fitted on top, designed to match your natural teeth in shape and colour.

Why people choose dental implants

  • Long-lasting (often decades with good care)
  • Look and feel natural
  • Protect the jawbone by preventing bone loss
  • Don’t damage neighbouring teeth
  • Restore confidence when eating, speaking, and smiling
