What is Root Canal treatment?

by | 28 Jan 2026

A root canal treatment is a dental treatment used to remove infection or inflammation from the inside of a tooth.

Inside each tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected or damaged (often due to decay, a deep filling, or a crack), it can cause pain.

During a root canal:

  1. The dentist removes the infected or damaged pulp.
  2. The inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected.
  3. The space is filled and sealed.
  4. A crown is often placed on top to strengthen the tooth.

The procedure saves the natural tooth and relieves pain, allowing you to keep the tooth instead of having it removed.
