How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign works by gently moving your teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners that are custom-made for your mouth.
Here’s how it works step-by-step:

1. Digital scan and treatment plan

Your dentist takes a 3D scan of your teeth. This is used to design a personalised treatment plan showing how your teeth will move over time.

2. Custom clear aligners are made

You receive a set of clear plastic aligners. Each one is slightly different and moves your teeth a little closer to the final position.

3. Wear each aligner 20–22 hours a day

You wear an aligner for about 1–2 weeks before switching to the next one in the series.
The more consistently you wear them, the better the results.

4. Small attachments may be used

Tiny tooth-coloured β€œbuttons” may be placed on certain teeth to help the aligners grip and move them more precisely.

5. Gradual tooth movement

Each new aligner applies gentle pressure, shifting your teeth gradually and safely over time.

6. Check-ups with your dentist

You’ll have regular reviews to ensure your teeth are moving correctly and to adjust the plan if needed.

7. Retainers at the end

Once treatment is finished, you wear retainers to keep your new smile in place.
