Feeling nervous about the dentist is very common — but there are ways to make your visits calmer and more comfortable.
✅ Tips to Reduce Anxiety:
- Communicate with your dentist – let them know your fears; they can adjust treatment.
- Bring a friend or family member – support can help you relax.
Whilst the initial tips are good and helpful things to do at TRUSTDental we have been treating anxious patients for a long time and know that dental anxiety is borne out of bad experiences, nobody is born anxious of the dentist. Whilst we cannot do anything about patient past experiences, we can give patients good experiences going forward. Then by reinforcing those good experiences to themselves we find that they will come with less anxiety next time. If they come in with less anxiety they would be better able to realise what is actually happening and not see it through an emotional cloud of anxiety. It takes a lot of energy to be anxious for example if the patient was given the scenario that if they were in a happy place and they were asked to be anxious they would find it hard to be anxious as there was no reason to be anxious and would not want to expend the energy of being anxious when there was no reason. At TRUSTDental we have found that with time as the patient experience with us are good ones their level of anxiety will decrease as it would be the default position to not expend the energy if there is nothing to be anxious about.
💡 Remember:
Dental anxiety is normal, and your dentist is there to help you feel safe, we are not here to judge you. Regular visits with good experiences can actually reduce fear over time.
